Bodegas Osborne - Rare Oloroso Sherry Solera India 1922 (500ml)

Founded in 1772, in El Puerto de Santa Maria (Cadiz), Bodegas Osborne is one of Spain's most distinguished wine and sherry producers and one of the oldest family-owned businesses in the world. Since those early years, Osborne has remained in family hands. Today, Mr. Tomás Osborne Gamero-Cívico, the fifth Count of Osborne, directs the company as Chairman of the Board of Directors. They place an extremely high value on quality and consistency to offer consumers exceptional wines with equally attractive pricing.

Osborne owns nearly 400 hectares, much in the Balbaina district of Jerez Superior, and fairly recently acquired the old Domecq VORS soleras. Their vast company portfolio also encompasses the well reputed Bodegas Montecillo wines from Rioja, Solaz wines from Tierra de Castilla and Dominio de Malpica wines also from Tierra de Castilla. Brandy, port and other distinguished spirits as well as delicious Iberian pork products, bottled water and TOROXL energy drinks, round out the comprehensive portfolio. Really, Osborne is more of an empire than a company.

Bodegas Osborne Description

Dark mahogany in color. On the nose, dried fig, soy, black pepper, dried apple and orange, bay leaf and star anise. On the palate, round and rich, with a scintillating blend of savory and sweet flavors. Wood spices, molasses, fig, maple and honey carry through to a rich, spicy finish laden with candied fruit.

Wine Advocate: 93 Points

"The NV Rare Sherry Solera India Oloroso blends Palomino and Pedro Ximenez grapes in a solera created in 1922, averaging 25 years of age. It wears a dark mahogany robe with green and amber edges. The nose shows good balance between bitter and sweet notes, nuts, spices (curry perhaps?), noble woods, molasses and a touch of candied fruits and brandy. The palate has hints of a very old wine, complex and concentrated, with a touch of volatility that lifts it up, quite common in such old wines, with good balance between acidity and sweetness. It is a unique bottle. A high end cream?"-Luis Gutierrez
