Alvina Pernot, born and raised in Puligny-Montrachet, grew up helping her father and uncle at Domaine Paul Pernot throughout her childhood. Ambitious to establish her own label and make her own wine, Alvina Pernot’s established her own micro-négoce (yet effectively own Domaine) label in 2018. Initially working across both domaines, she now entirely focuses on her own enterprise with her husband, while maintaining and benefiting from ties with the family estate.
For any new domaine starting out, it is immensely difficult and competitive in the village of Puligny-Montrachet. However, Alvina is uniquely placed with access to enviable holdings as contracts run down and land is taken back under the family umbrella, as well as having the talent and drive to forge out her own label and reputation. In our opinion, Alvina already appears to be making the most of her talents, heritage and terroir, so the only way is up for this excellent producer. The wines are produced from fruit sourced from early ripening parcels and she prefers a slightly longer elevage to the family Domaine. While all the wines are excellent, the 1er Cru Folatières and the Caillerets appear to be particular stand-outs. We are delighted to be there at the start of the journey and hope you will join us in following her progression.
Decanter - Review Date: 01/2024 - This vibrant wine has expressive aromas of green apple, lemon peel, hawthorn flowers, and hazelnut. The texture is elegant and fine, with impressive freshness given the heat of the vintage that carries the wine to a rewardingly long finish. There are six barrels this year that come from an exchange with another vigneron. The wines are aged in older barrels with most of their lees but without stirring to maximise freshness. (CC)
The 2022 Meursault Poruzots 1er Cru is a little reductive on the nose, but there is concentration here, crushed stone and pressed flowers commingling with subtle jasmine and yellow fruit aromas. The palate is very well-balanced with a killer line of acidity. Taut and focused, precise and tensile, this is a superbly made Poruzots with commendable length and salinity. Excellent. (NM)
Pale colour. A firm and slightly chunky nose. There is plenty of volume here with a chiselled and concentrated white fruit, plenty of energy, fair length, backward and in its firmer style. Typical of its site and with excellent potential. The Poruzot has the excitement which I did not quite find in the Charmes. Drink from 2027-2035.
