The Merkelbach estate is still run by septuagenarians Alfred and Rolf, who have been at the Urzig estate for the last 50 years. The vines on the 4.65-acres of parcels are original rootstock and an average of 45-years old. The brothers vinify each parcel separately and age them in individually numbered casks.

It offers a comparatively opulent and intensely aromatic nose made of apricot, coconut, pear and melon, all pepped up by pungent earthy spices. The wine remains playful and elegant on the almond and fruit infused palate. The finish is smooth but also elegantly refined and long.
