At ten years of age, the Rhys Alpine Vineyard Chardonnay is drinking beautifully well. This is one of the riper vintages for this bottling, coming in at 13.5 percent octane and was delicious from the moment it was released, but it is aging very well indeed. Today, the wine offers up a bright and complex nose of fresh pineapple, pear, orange zest, a lovely base of stony soil tones, almond, musky floral tones and a gentle framing of buttery oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and nicely soil-driven under the very pretty fruit, with a succulent core, a lovely spine of acidity, excellent balance and a long, vibrant and complex finish. This lovely wine still has plenty of life ahead of it and I clearly misread its potential longevity when I first tasted it back in the spring of 2016. - John Gilman
