From vines in two Marsannay Rosé parcels which are being promoted to Marsannay rouge, but declassified here. The first vintage with this label – and used for all three of the domaine’s Bourgognes from now – this produced with grapes that come from 2 parcels Marsannay, declassified to this label.
"A little broader nose, extra impact of freshness and florals. Incisive, more direct, a more athletic wine, even a little licorice in the flavours that adhere to the palate – impressively long finishing – great Bourgogne!" Bill Nanson - Burgundy Report
Domaine Joseph Roty has been in the same family for twelve generations, since 1710, and has one of the largest followings of any Burgundian grower. ‘We keep faith with real Burgundy!' says Pierre-Jean who has been running the domaine for the last few years. Very old vines and a traditional approach in the vineyard and cellar create wines of remarkable character and depth. Everything is destemmed and they bottle without fining or
filtration, following the phases of the moon. The wines are capable of ageing for decades and develop the most wonderful aromas and complex flavours. As with Lignier, Roty releases a year later. Harvest started early on 2nd September in 2020. Concentrated and structured with superb length, 2020 is vintage for keeping says Pierre-Jean, un grand millésime de garde'.
The Roty family’s bottling of Pressoniers has a fine track record of aging very well in bottle and the 2020 version seems likely to be another long distance runner example of Bourgogne rouge. The wine delivers a deep bouquet of cassis, black raspberries, grilled meats, dark soil tones and a top note of dark chocolate. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, ripely tannic and shows off a fine, sappy core of black fruit, with tangy acids, fine focus and grip and a long, promising finish.
A very intense dark purple black. Rich, if perhaps slightly cooked cherries and dark fruits. Super-concentrated but managing its tannins more successfully. Very dark raspberries. I think this will work with a lot of patience.
Aromas of dark cherries, loamy soil, spices and grilled meats introduce the 2020 Bourgogne Côte d'Or Pressonnier, a medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated wine that's youthfully firm and structured, with a bright spine of acidity that will reward some patience. (WK)
