The domaine’s beginnings date back to the late 19th century when François Xavier Julien first purchased some vineyard land in Comblanchien and Nuits Saint Georges.

Today, Etienne has taken over at the domaine and in a very short time it’s clear he is a real talent who is continuing to improve. In the coming years he no doubt will be one of the fresh faces in Burgundy that everyone will be talking about.

Domaine Gerard Julien produces small quantities of Bourgogne Aligoté, Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Cote-de-Nuits Village, Aloxe-Corton “Les Valozieres”, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Nuits-Saint-Georges “Aux Saints Julien”, Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru “Les Bousselots” and Échezeaux Grand Cru.

Inside Burgundy: 93-96 Points

93-96 Points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy: "30% whole bunches, 50% new wood, and 50% one year old, four barrels in all. Not quite as deep in colour as some at this address, but nonetheless a pronounced purple. The nose could use freshening up a bit. Some citrus zest in with the red fruit, medium concentration, the terroir is imposing some finesse on what is otherwise a rumbustious style of winemaking. That could be weird but actually I think this will work very well, as the persistence of quite an elegant fruit through to the back of the palate indicates. Return of the citrus zest though more like flakes of orange zest now. Drink from 2028-2036." 11/22

Burghound: 90-93 Points

90-93 Points, Allen Meadows, Burghound: "Once again there is enough wood to merit pointing out on the spicy aromas of black cherry, plum, violet, lavender and exotic tea. The rich and very generously proportioned larger-scaled flavors manage to retain reasonably good detail on the solidly powerful, focused and very firm finale. This compact effort is also going to require at least moderate patience to unwind but also to add depth. (Drink starting 2033)" 01/23
