Mazis-Chambertin, sometimes written Mazy-Chambertin is an Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) and Grand Cru vineyard for red wine in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy, with Pinot noir as the main grape variety. Mazis-Chambertin is located within the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. It is situated above (to the west of) the Route des Grands Crus. It borders on Chambertin-Clos de Bèze in the south, Ruchottes-Chambertin in the west, and on Gevrey-Chambertin Premier Cru vineyards in the north and east. Among the various "Chambertin" vineyards, it is the one situated closer to the town of Gevrey-Chambertin itself. The AOC was created in 1937, and should not be confused with the entirely separate Mazoyères-Chambertin.
The Domaine of Faiveley is situated in the village of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Burgundy, France. Wine runs deep in the Faiveley family’s blood. Seven generations and one of the largest owners in Burgundy, with holdings spreading from the Côte de Nuits to the Côte Chalonnaise, featuring polished, collectible reds and whites with exceptionally high ratings. Today it is managed by Erwan Faiveley and his sister Eve Faiveley.
"Faiveley’s wines are... supremely clean and elegant: definitive examples of Pinot Noir... above all they have richness and breed, the thumbprint of a master winemaker." -Clive Coates M.W. Côte d’Or, A Celebration of the Great Wines of Burgundy.
From 1.56ha of several parcels in the Mazis-Haut lieu-dit. Despite a fermentation in open-top wood fermenters, with a proportion of whole clusters punched down daily and aged in 60% new casks, this is far from aggressive. Seductively approachable, showing red berry fruit character, mineral and smoky notes, with a silky, fairly open texture displaying great finesse without lacking substance.
