Perched on a high terrace of the Pomerol plateau, Chateau Gazin is a family owned and operated estate producing sumptuous, seductive, silky-smooth wines that have become synonymous with the excellence of their appellation. Located on the north-eastern part of the Pomerol plateau, between Châteaux Petrus and Lafleur-Gazin, on a terroir of Gunzian gravel with a subsoil of blue and green clay with iron oxides, the vineyard is managed with an environmentally friendly approach: ploughing, organic fertilizers, minimum use of pesticides, mating disruption, manual harvests. It is indeed Pomerol’s remarkable terroir that allow Merlot to shine at its brightest, imbuing the wines of Chateau Gazin with complex aromas of jammy black fruit, licorice and mint, evolving truffles, undergrowth and well-worn, warm leather with age.
A muscular and focused red with juicy fruit, chocolate, cedar and spice aromas and flavors. Malted milk, too. Full and very polished with tension and focus. Layers of tannins to the texture. Lovely finish. Drink after 2027 but already delicious.
I continue to absolutely love the wines from this Pomerol chateau, and their Grand Vin always brings a richness and depth that makes it a joy to drink. Coming from a larger vineyard near Petrus, La Fleur Petrus, and Le Gay, the dense purple hue of the 2020 Chateau Gazin is followed by a rocking bouquet of ripe black cherries, currants, melted chocolate, roasted herbs, and earth. Full-bodied, deep, opulent, and concentrated, give this gorgeous 2020 4-6 years of bottle age and enjoy over the following 25+. Best After 2027.
"The 2020 Gazin is a wine of total precision and class. Vibrant, with tremendous nuance, the 2020 is so impressive. Dark red cherry, iron, tobacco, white pepper and crushed flowers abound. The 2020 is a standout Gazin."-Antonio Galloni
I love this, extremely classic Gazin, which has depth and pep, and a jaunty feel to the black fruits. The freshness keeps the core of this wine firm from beginning to end, as do the chewy tannins. This is not an exuberant vintage but at this particular estate it suits the personality because it is always fairly old school and classic. For the first time no Cabernet Franc in the blend, just Cabernet Sauvignon.
