The "Poderi Aldo Conterno" winery founded in 1969 is situated in Bussia of Monforte d'Alba which is the heart of the Barolo wine area. The winery is run by the three sons of Aldo: Franco, Stefano and Giacomo who followed in the footsteps of their father to carry on the family tradition.
The estate, which vinifies exclusively its own grapes, consists of 25 hectares of vineyard. Cru vineyards produce bottlings titled "Romirasco" "Cicala" and "Colonnello" located in Bussia vineyard of Monforte d’Alba. The yields per hectare are very low and the total production is about 80,000 bottles a year. Produced exclusively by hand with a very careful selection of the picked grapes always following a strict family tradition.
Their proudest achievement is the Barolo named "GRANBUSSIA" derived from the best of their Bussia vineyards in Monforte d'Alba, aged for over thirty months in oak casks and refined for a further six years. The GRANBUSSIA represents the purest and most virtuous essence of three different historical Bussia cru and it is only produced for those years that are felt as being worthwhile.
Mineral and savory nose with lots of crushed stones, iron, seaweed, spiced blood orange and cranberries. Structured and vertical on the palate but nothing fleshy here. It shows more mineral tension and tautness than fruit. A pure, long Nebbiolo Langhe that gives clarity and precision. Already very drinkable now, but can hold as well.
