The 2018er Hofberg, as it is referred to on the consumer label, was fermented in Fuder from holdings in the classical Hofberg vineyards planted with over 55 year-old vines. It proves aromatically quite present and displays notes of Lemoncello, mint and chalky minerals. The wine is intense and full of tension on the palate, and leaves a superb feel of fresh fruits and zest in the long finish. A touch of pear in the after-taste is the only reminder that this wine comes from a ripe vintage. This is a little beauty with only 12% of alcohol. 2023-2038

Attractively fresh and defined aromas of lemons and white peaches. Flinty notes, too. The palate has a smooth and succulent feel with a seamlessly glossy core of ripe white peaches and lemons.
Featuring fruit from the same steep site and 50-some-year-old vines that have informed previous installments of this wine, the 2018 reflects in its 12% alcohol both site-specific differences in must weight and the fact that these grapes were not picked until the first week in October. Strawberry, pear and lime are accompanied on the nose by pleasantly earthy suggestions of raw pumpkin as well as by faintly dusty and smoky stoniness. The feel is firm, but acidity is marginally less prominent than in the ostensibly lesser legally dry bottlings that precede it in Adam’s lineup. It shares with those wines, though, an amazing sense of stony, alkaline and smoky mineral matter clinging to the palate, and in this instance even to one’s teeth! Fortunately, there is more than enough primary juiciness for the gripping finish to also refresh. (Drink between 2020-2028)
