1) Prosecco A Cut Above: Silvano Follador

Style is important in Prosecco. Most are perfectly pleasant; only a few are a cut above. Silvano Follador is one of those, and it’s all about style. More than an aperitif, the Follador is a fresh, fragrant wine you can enjoy throughout a dinner. It is vintage-dated and much drier than what you generally see in the U.S., with a large portion of grapes coming from the prized, hilly Cartizze subzone. Primary fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts. 

2) Incomparable Cabernet? Meet Inconnu ‘No Gods No Masters’

Brand new from veteran winemaker Laura Brennan, who focuses on focused on low-intervention wines from multiple sources around California. The grapes for this Cabernet come chiefly from organically and regeneratively-farmed vineyards in Mendocino, which is typically a bit cooler than Napa. That moderation, plus her use of wild yeasts and minimal sulfur keeps the wine from being too ripe and heavy. Plenty of Cab character here (plum, blackberry, mint, cedar) with tartness and richness in balance.

3) Vajra 2023… Barbera-licious!

The past two vintages of this wine have scored 90 and 91 from Wine Advocate and this one, fresh off the boat, should be no different. Vajra is a Piedmontese wizard. This Barbera is a celebration of freshness, bursting with aromas of red berry juice, roses, and fresh plums. The palate is both crisp and juicy, offering a delightful layered impression of sweet red and black cherries, spices, and fresh dark berries.

4) Domaine Thibert: a Family Affair in Macon

Coming from a winemaking family that dates back seven generations, Mr and Mme René Thibert created their own 2.5 hectare domaine in 19th-century Century house. Now the children have taken over the operation, which today consists of over 18 Ha of vineyards in which all of the appellations of the Southern Mâconnais are represented. Jasper Morris gave this vintage 90 points, praising it as “savoury and stylish, with precision and density.”
