Your Vin Picks for the month of April 2025:
1) 2023 Gerard Boulay Sancerre Rose Sibylle
'Tis the (Pink) Season - Unlike many rosés, Boulay’s Rosé is made from 35-40 year old Pinot Noir vines located on the steep hillsides of Chavignol. The old vines, combined with hands-on fermentation, make for a full-flavored rose with more heft than the usual Provence dry pink. This is the rose to break out with dinner, as opposed to before… Juicy and bright; try it with seafood, spicy food, veggies.
Vinous 90
"The 2023 Rosé Sibylle is redolent with crushed berry fruit, rosewater, spice, mint and orange peel. Sensual and layered in the glass, the 2023 possesses lovely textural resonance to play off its effusive aromatics. It’s a gorgeous wine from Gerard Boulay." - Antonio Galloni
2) 2023 Craggy Range Sauvignon Blanc Martinborough Te Muna Road Vineyard
Standing Out from the NZ Crowd - One glass of this wine and you’ll know why it was #11 on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of 2024. It’s way more than the usual Marlborough citrus twang. Their critic, MaryAnn Worobiec, wrote: “Fresh and precise, with lime, mango and passion fruit notes that are accented by crunchy sea salt, litsea oil, dried chamomile and fresh lemon zest on a mouthwatering, fleshy frame.” In short, this is a rare NZ SB in that its intensity is eclipsed by its complexity. A great way to reawaken your palate for Spring.

3) 2023 Matthieu Barret Cotes du Rhone Petit Ours
Sneaky Good - Get ready to enjoy a remarkable Southern Rhone red from legendary Northen Rhone winemaker Matthieu Barret of Domaine de Coulet in Cornas. Typically, Cotes du Rhone rouge is a blend of two, three, or often more grapes. But Matthieu Barret’s is 100% Syrah – from clay and limestone dominated biodynamic vineyard. Dark berry, black pepper and smoky aromatics lead into a vibrant, structured palate. Petit Ours ('Little Bear') is Matthieu Barret's nickname; and yes, that is a teddy bear on the label.
4) 2023 Argiano Rosso di Montalcino
Tuscany for Tonight - If you want full-bodied Sangiovese-driven character without the chance to opened-too-soon regret, Rosso di Montalcino is often the way to go – juicy and textured but not overly tannic; earthy and fruity in that signature Sangiovese profile. Argiano is best-known for their Brunello and Super Tuscan ‘Solengo,’ but this fresh, ripe and ready Rosso may impress just as much.
