Taittinger - Brut Prestige NV

This Champagne is a blend of some 30 Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vineyards, respectively 40% and 60% of the total, from several harvests of perfectly ripened grapes.

95 Tasting Panel

Bright and lively, this is one of my favorite non vintage Bruts. Crisp and balanced, with smooth, exuberant, Chardonnay-driven style; racy, elegant, and totally charming; long and memorable.

Taittinger Description

Champagne Taittinger was established in 1931 by Pierre Taittinger on the foundations of Forest-Forneaux, itself established in 1734 and the third-oldest wine producing house of Champagne. Taittinger is today proprietor of approximately 600 acres of vines among which are included parcels in the one hundred - percent rated villages of Cramant and Avize in the Cote des Blancs; and Bouzy, Mailly, Ambonnay and Verzenay in the Montagne de Reims. The Taittinger Estate is one of the three most extensive in the Champagne district, and the firm's major holdings in Chardonnay vineyards are the physical expression of the Taittinger philosophy and style.

A View from the Cellar: 91 Points

This sample of Taittinger “La Française” non-vintage Brut was tasted from half bottle. The cépages is its customary forty percent chardonnay, thirty-five percent pinot noir and twenty-five percent pinot meunier and was aged three years on its fine lees. The wine offers up a lovely nose of apple, pear, chalky soil tones, bread dough and a topnote of white lilies. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied and focused, with a good core and soil undertow, elegant mousse and a long, complex and very nicely balanced finish. This is very tasty and should age well over the mid-term.

Wine Advocate: 90 Points

The latest release of Taittinger’s NV Brut La Française exhibits aromas of citrus oil, apple, pastry and nuts. Medium to full-bodied with a fleshy fruit core, it’s perfectly balanced with a pinpoint mousse and a refreshing, penetrating finish.

Wine Spectator: 89 Points

A balanced Champagne, with a lively bead and a fresh mix of cherry and pear fruit, toast point and candied pink grapefruit peel notes. Modest on the minerally finish. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
