The 2018er Anrecht, as it is referred to on the consumer label, was block-harvested at 105° Oechsle in the similarly named Lieu-Dit situated in a steep part of the vineyard (the reference to Zeltinger Himmelreich is only provided on the back label), and was fermented down to noble-sweet levels of residual sugar (100 g/l). It offers a gorgeous nose made of pear, honeyed elements, pineapple, fine spices, and green herbs. The wine develops the beautifully playful and zesty side of an Auslese GK on the creamy palate, and leaves a nice tension between zesty elements and almond cream in the long and vibrating finish. This is a truly beautiful sweet wine! 2028-2048
94 points - Mosel Fine Wine
The 2018 Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Auslese Anrecht is very clear and fresh on the herbal and stony nose with its greenish fruit and lime/lemon chutney aromas. Round and juicy as well as piquant on the palate, this is a juicy-piquant and more coolish terroir wine from a higher altitude compared to its peers Rotlay and Schmitt. The wine is piquant, pure and finessed, and its sweetness is the less prominent of the the three. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.
The relatively deep and hence marginally more water-retentive soil in this spot compared with most of Selbach-Oster’s steep Zeltingen slopes may well have conduced to greater botrytis influence, so that the marginally slimmer, brighter personality this wine frequently exhibits vis-à-vis its “Schmitt” and “Rotlay” counterparts is absent here. Dried and confitured apricot, apple jelly and white raisin dominate on both nose and palate, conveying an impression that had whatever healthy bunches remained when this got picked instead been pulled out for a separate bottling, we would have been left with something approaching Esszencia. Interestingly, though, we’re at 8.5% alcohol here, moderately higher than this year’s “Rotlay,” significantly higher than registered by the Selbachs vintage 2017 en bloc bottlings, and of course far from that of an Esszencia. Nougat and nut paste notes add to the richness of an impressively persistent finish that from somewhere manages to call up a welcome modicum of fresh fruit juiciness. (Drink between 2019-2042)
