Produced from rigorously selected Sangiovese (97%) and Canaiolo (3%) grapes. The fermentation and maceration is carried out in concrete and steel tanks for about 18/20 days. Subsequently, the wine is aged in French oak barrels and casks, for a time that varies, according to the characteristics of the wine, from 16 to 20 months. After bottling, it is refined in glass for about 6 months. It is an aging wine that well expresses the potential of the land of San Giusto a Rentennano
Fattoria San Giusto a Rentennano is a famous, historical Tuscan wine estate known for both Chianti Classico and high-quality, single-variety IGT wines. Located 15km to the northeast of the Renaissance city of Siena, the winery is owned and run by the Martini di Cigala family in the village of Gaiole. San Giusto a Rentennano's vineyards have been certified organic since 2006.
"The 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva Le Baròncole is a beautiful wine that delivers elegance and grace despite the difficult conditions of the growing season that saw drought and hot summer temperatures. The wine shows depth and concentration with black fruit, crushed flowers, charred meat and potting soil. There is some phenolic bitterness here (probably due to the lack of moisture in the soils); however, the late-ripening Sangiovese grape performs nicely overall, thanks to those last few cooler weeks on the vine before harvest. That final phase of ripening has helped to solidify the wine's aromatic intensity. Luca Martini di Cigala has carefully crafted an impressive wine in this vintage."-Monica Larner
