Matt Reynvaan has become one of the best, if not the best, winemakers in the state of Washington and his superb Syrahs showcase what he does best - age-worthy, complex, and layered wines from the Rocks district. His “In The Rocks” Syrah hits you in the face with a delectable, complex and constantly changing nose of freshly brewed black tea, blueberry compote, uncooked bacon fat, ground black peppercorn and grated grapefruit zest. The structure of the wine is practically perfect with a core of black fruits, green olives, sagebrush, roasted leg of lamb and a hint of grapefruit pith. I cannot wait to see how this wine evolves over the next decade or so.
97 points - International Wine Report
One of the wines of the vintage, the 2018 Syrah In The Rocks is 90% Syrah and a whopping 10% Viognier, that was 70% destemmed and aged in 30% new puncheons. Medium to full-bodied, seamless, and incredibly well-balanced, it has a beautiful nose of red plums, blackberries, violets, spring flowers, and bacon fat. As with many of Matt’s Syrahs, it has a distinctly Old World style and it’s just a joy to drink. While it’s ready to go today, I see no reason it shouldn’t hold for 10-15 years.
