The entire Fattoria Poggio di Sotto vineyard of ten hectares is destined for Brunello, four hectares are planted with around 1,400 olive trees, the rest is woodland. The first Brunello di Montalcino dates back to 1991, two years after the foundation of the estate. Within a short period of time, wines of great elegance and complexity were emerging. The entire property is farmed according to the criteria of organic farming. The steep vineyards with southern exposure in Castelnuovo dell'Abate at the foot of Monte Amiata reach altitudes between 200 and 400 meters. And the rocky soils are composed of gravel and clay in the lower plots and sandy loam in the higher altitudes. With three to three and a half tons per hectare, yields are kept low.
In the cellar the fermentation takes place in wood and stainless steel tanks with a volume of seven tons. After the biological degradation of acidity, the wines mature in Slavonian oak before being bottled - two years of Rosso, four years of Brunello and five years of Brunello Riserva.
The Fattoria Poggio di Sotto has already achieved cult status under its previous owner. The current Brunello vintages still bear Palmucci's handwriting. And the young wines resting in the cellar show, according to experts, that the new owner consistently continues the unmistakable style of the house. superiore.de
“The 2017 Poggio di Sotto Rosso di Montalcino will need some time to fully open up. The nose is reticent, requiring quite a bit of coaxing, before a bouquet of fresh sweet strawberry, cherry, Tuscan spice box, dusty florals and hints of mint lift from the glass. On the palate, soft textures flood the senses, offset by tart red fruits, minerals and spice, as the 2018 seems to hover - well poised, almost weightless, yet still fully satisfying. The finish is long and very pretty, as fresh red fruits resonate above a tactile mix of acid, minerals and light tannin, giving way to a singular red floral note that seems to go on for minutes. 2022 – 2030”.
