Fixin wine is produced in the communes of Fixin and Brochon in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy. The Appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) Fixin may be used for red and white wine with respectively Pinot noir and Chardonnay as the main grape variety. The production of red wine dominates greatly, with around 96 per cent, and only around four per cent white wine. There are no Grand Cru vineyards with these communes.
Méo-Camuzet is one of the most celebrated domaines of the Côte d’Or, located in the heart of prestigious Vosne-Romanée. The domaine boasts fourteen hectares of land in some of the most spectacular appellations and crus of Burgundy. The vineyard land in Burgundy is highly parceled out among families, which makes it rare for anyone to have enough vines to be able to bottle one grand cru, let alone the six that the Méos have. The early beginnings of the domaine left it in the hands of share-croppers. The last twenty years have brought substantial changes that have fostered a new chapter for the Méo family.
The 2020 Fixin chez Méo is less roasted on the nose than the Marsannay and I like it a bit better for this. The bouquet is a mix of cassis, dark berries, grilled meats, bitter chocolate and dark soil tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely balanced, with a good core, fine-grained tannins and sneaky length and grip on the focused and vibrant finish. Good juice.
"The 2020 Fixin (Méo-Camuzet Frère & Soeurs) is taut and incisive, unwinding in the glass with notes of red berries, cassis, orange rind and spices. Medium-bodied, lively and tightly wound, it's a little compact and will require some time to unwind." 01/22 William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
