Marques de Riscal - Rioja Tapias 2021

Las Tapias is a notable wine which comes from a combination of features which are hard to find: finesse, elegance and complexity. It has tension and good structure, it is long and fresh. A blend of delicacy and power with clearly defined notes of redcurrants and cherries with slightly mentholated, smoky and spicy underlying nuances coming through. A wine with good balance and harmony, and a creamy texture which leaves an intense recollection of fruit. Its tannin concentration is excellent, with tannins of pure velvet which leave no sensation of astringency. And it is all presided over by minerality. Like the great vintages of the house it stands out as a great wine for laying
down with a very long potential for ageing. A wine which looks back to the past with its eyes on the future.

Tapias de Marqués de Riscal takes its name from one of the best Marqués de Riscal vineyard plots, Finca Las Tapias, which was planted in 1968 and presents unique terroir features with its ferrous and calcareous clay soils.

It is a red wine which evokes those which the house was making in the early days, with a certain Bordeaux influence in terms of the winemaking methods.

Tapias is a wine with so much identity that it is distributed though the Place de Bordeaux system. It is a true return to the roots of the distribution of the bodega’s wines, because Marqués de Riscal also sold their wines through the Place de Bordeaux more than a century ago.

"A modern, glossy and polished Rioja, showing depth and refinement. Yes, the creamy oak knocks at the door now, behind which is a wealth of spices, blackberries, black currants and red cherries with cocoa powder and graphite. Hedonistic and oaky in nature but has filigree tannins and a long, fragrant finish that goes on for almost a minute. A bit oaky now, but this will age beautifully."-Zekun Shuai
