Since 2009, Luigi Baudana has been under the operation and ownership of the G.D. Vajra estate from Barolo. As with the Vajra estate, Giuseppe and Aldo manage the winemaking process, along with Giuseppe’s brother Isidoro, the vineyard manager. They continue to consult with Luigi for his understanding of the land and experience. They primarily use 15- to 17-hectoliter Slavonian barrels for aging, as the size of the cellar dictates. For the Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba bottling, selections are made from the crus of Baudana, Cerretta, and Costabella. With the 2019 vintage, they are now certified organic.
Luigi Baudana is one of the last garagiste estates in Langhe. With just 4 quality hectares, they are located in some of the most prestigious Barolo crus in Serralunga d'Alba. The wines of the Luigi Baudana collection are an expression of powerful, genuine and true-to-terroir wines, expressing the best of the Nebbiolo grape. Baudana, the family name, the historical cru and the hamlet, is a sign of just how deep the family's roots are tied to this land.
This wine shows good ripeness and concentration for the vintage, its penetrating flavors of dark cherry and black raspberry enriched by notes of licorice and violet pastilles. Taut, ferrous tannins support the ripe fruit tones, exhibiting the power of Serralunga as the wine surges toward a lively finish.
Rich, exuding cherry, raspberry, plum and floral notes, with iron, tobacco and tar accents lending complexity. Shows terrific balance and depth, with a tightly wound structure that bodes well for future development.
