Louis Jadot - Santenay Clos de Malte 2019

Located in Santenay, in the southern Côte de Beaune, Clos de Malte is a 17 acres monopole of Louis Jadot that lies at the foot of the Montagne des Troix Croix. It is planted primarily to Pinot Noir on moist soil of limestone and clay, but there is also a small amount of Chardonnay here

The village of Santenay is located in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, just after Chassagne Montrachet. The «Clos de Malte» is a 7 ha Monopole (Louis Jadot is the sole owner) situated on the climat «Sous la Fée» at the foot of the Montagne des Troix Croix. The Santenay Clos de Malte is mainly planted with Pinot Noir with a small hectare of Chardonnay situated on very damp soil of limestone and clay. Destemmed grapes ferment in vats during 3 to 4 weeks. Aging takes place in oak barrels produced by our cooperage Cadus during 18 months.

Louis Jadot Description

Founded in 1859, by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, he was the first of his family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium in 1794 and soon began purchasing Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. With grape growing a part of his heritage, Louis Henry set about gaining experience first in the cellars, in the evaluation of wines, and then in the vineyards, in the study of viticulture. The house of Louis Jadot has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and currently owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots. In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses.

James Suckling: 92 Points

Here is an ideal introduction to the red wines of the 2019 vintage in Burgundy. Very charming nose of cherries that leads into the ripe and round palate. But this is also structured, thanks to the moderately dry tannins, which provide backbone and also, together with the acidity, freshness. Drink or hold.

Wine Enthusiast: 91 Points

Fresh blueberries are accented by dried rose petals and graphite in this youthful, bright-fruited Pinot Noir. Full bodied but crisply balanced by tart redcurrant acidity, it's a mouthwatering, delicately tannic red best enjoyed through 2026.

Wine Advocate: 88-90 Points

Bursting with aromas of cherries, red berries and spices, Jadot's 2019 Santenay Clos de Malte (Domaine Louis Jadot) is medium-bodied, bright and lively, with a pretty core of fruit and chalky grip on the finish.
