Chambolle-Musigny is one of the most famous villages of Côte de Nuits. This appellation is rather small. The “Drazey” vineyard is located next to Sentiers and Baudes. The very stony soil is composed of limestone with gravels. It is East and South-East oreinted. The grapes are destemmed. Fermentation takes place in open vats for 3 weeks. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels for about a year. Very nice dark ruby color. Very open and attractive nose, rather classic but complex and “unusual” at the same time. Well balanced in the mouth with soft tannins, nice rythm and nice Côte de Nuits architecture, very lively aromas and nice mineralilty.
Founded in 1859, by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, he was the first of his family to arrive in Beaune from Belgium in 1794 and soon began purchasing Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in Burgundy. With grape growing a part of his heritage, Louis Henry set about gaining experience first in the cellars, in the evaluation of wines, and then in the vineyards, in the study of viticulture. The house of Louis Jadot has grown through a long-term policy of acquisition or management of exceptional vineyard lands and currently owns 528 acres of vineyards, including nearly 280 acres of the Cote d’Or’s most prestigious Premier and Grand Cru plots. In Burgundy’s Côte d’Or, where the integrity of the producer is often more important than a renowned appellation or vineyard, Maison Louis Jadot is one of the most venerable, most trusted and revered wine houses.
The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Drazey has a lifted bouquet of ample dark cherries, bay leaf and light vervain tea aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit and a fine bead of acidity. The wood shows through a little toward the finish, but that should be assimilated with time. Fine. - Neal Martin
An attractively high-toned nose of maraschino cherry and spice elements gives way to vibrant and nicely rich flavors that are not of the lace and grace variety but do offer fine complexity and persistence. Some patience advised. Drink in 2024 - Allen Meadows
