"The Lithology wines have always been impressive. These days I see a bit more energy and a bit more focus than in the past. Proprietor Alejandro Bulgheroni sources fruit from a number of Andy Beckstoffer’s top sites and employs several elite consultants, but it is day-to-day winemaker Matt Sands who seems to drive the direction here. Rich, full-bodied, and powerful, yet with sweet tannins, flawless balance, and that rare mix of richness and elegance, it needs to be tasted to be believed. Bold, incisive tannins wrap around a core of blue/purplish fruit, lavender, mocha, gravel, spice, new leather and chocolate. Even with all its obvious intensity, the 2021 has more than enough fruit to drink well for many years to come, once it eventually softens.
