The 2017 Fleurie Clos Vernay was unaffected by hail according to Frédéric Lafarge. It has a deep blueberry and raspberry coulis scented bouquet and hints of crushed iris developing with aeration. The palate is grippy and firm on the entry quite dense for a Fleurie with a masculine structured finish that suggests this will repay cellaring. It is a Fleurie with ambition.
Tasted from barrel, the 2017 Fleurie Clos Vernay is more expressive, its floral bouquet of red fruits and sweet cocoa complemented by savory bass notes of game bird. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, juicy and ample, with fresh acids and firm, chalky structuring tannins.
