The 2012 Henriot Brut Millésime is an fine example of the vintage. It is composed from a blend of fifty-four percent chardonnay and forty-six percent pinot noir in this year, was given fully eight years aging sur latte and finished with a dosage of six grams per liter. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a classy blend of apple, fresh-baked bread, a touch of hazelnut, a fine base of soil tones, dried flowers and a gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is vibrant, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a lovely core, good soil undertow, pinpoint bubbles and a long, well-balanced and refined finish. This is a lovely bottle.
This elegant Champagne is still very youthful, with notes of ripe apple and acacia flowers. There is a discreet, well-integrated toasty character, but the autolysis is not overdone. The texture is creamy and dense, yet the wine is not lacking acidity, and the balance carries it to a lovely finish. The vintage 2012 is made from Chardonnay grown mainly in Trépail with a bit from Chouilly and Avize, and Pinot Noir from Mailly, Verzenay, and Avenay-Val-d'Or.
