"Graphite, eucalyptus, rose and wild berry aromas shape the alluring nose. The full-bodied, rather austere palate mirrors the nose, offering dried cherry, blood orange, crushed herb and star anise alongside notes suggesting flinty mineral. Tightly knit, close-grained tannins provide support and lead to a firm finish. Drink 2022–2027. "
On March 27, 1900, a forefather of Giuseppe Nada sealed a deal on a vineyard, orchard, and a small house on a steep hillside in the commune of Treiso. The vineyard was in the cru of Casot, and that forefather bought the parcel from a fellow by the name of Gaja.
In 1964 Giuseppe’s father, Antonio, made the risky decision to begin to estate bottle a part of his production, requiring him to invest in a small winery (he put it in the basement of that house on the Casot hillside). It was a prescient move: in 1966 the DOC of Barbaresco, named after one of the three villages in the appellation, became established.
The Nada Giuseppe 2015 Barbaresco Riserva Casot shows an extra year of cellar age and comes from a vintage that was very bright and fruit forward to begin with. This is a silky and polished wine with a steady delivery of classic aromas of wild berry, forest floor, crushed stone and crushed aniseed. The texture is soft and pliant, wrapping around the palate with medium consistency. This Riserva is open and accessible, drinking beautifully straight out of the gate, ideally with a pheasant or other game fowl. A mere 1,900 bottles were made.
Enrico Nada makes an excellent wine from this Treiso vineyard, and in most vintages he produces a Riserva too. The nose is floral, with fragrant strawberry and raspberry aromas. Although concentrated and velvety, it displays an evident juiciness and considerable freshness and finesse too. Nonetheless there are very ripe tannins that give a long, solid finish. (Drink between 2020-2035)
