Floral aromas of rose and violet lead the way along with notes of camphor, spice, hay and perfumed berry on Francesco Rinaldi’s stunning 2019 Rocche dell'Annunziata. Made with grapes hailing from what is La Morra’s most celebrated vineyard site and in a part of the cru that has more sand when compared to site’s higher reaches, this is all about extreme elegance and intensity, delivering juicy red cherry punctuated by baking spice, star anise and menthol before finishing on a tangy mineral note recalling saline. Taut, polished tannins provide seamless support while fresh acidity keeps it balanced and vibrant. What a beauty.
The 2019 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is an elegant, polished wine. Super-classic Rocche aromatics open first. There's plenty of substance on the palate as well, where the wine offers notable resonance and tons of persistence. Kirsch, blood orange, spice, menthol and dried herbs are all beautifully delineated. All this needs is a few years in bottle. - Antonio Galloni
With fruit from La Morra, this wine shows soft fruit, spice and fine tannins that are characteristic of this cru site with beautiful south-facing exposures. The bouquet on the Francesco Rinaldi & Figli 2019 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is initially shy, and you need to give this wine more bottle age. Redcurrant, spice and licorice eventually lift from the bouquet. - Monica Larner
