Domaine Maillard - Pommard La Chaniere 2017 (1.5L)

The Maillards come from a long tradition of winemakers, all the way back to the 1650's. But it was not until 1952 that Domaine Maillard was founded by Daniel Maillard. Daniel Maillard's sons Alain and Pascal currently run Domaine Maillard Père et Fils, with Pascal focusing on winemaking and Alain on the vineyards."

La Chaniere is one of the best location sites in Pommard and possibly one of the best bargains. Most of La Chaniere is classified premier cru, but a small parcel has yet not been designated despite being in La Chaniere and adjacent to Les Vignots premier cru. This plot was made into a vineyard in the 1970s and the vines have now reached over 50 yrs of age.
This is a wine of premier cru quality and is a classic example of Pommard with its earthy and smoky characteristics. The wine, from 50 yr old vines comes from plots that are both on the 1er cru section and the non-classified section.

Domaine Maillard Description

The name "Chanière" is derived from an old Burgundy word “Châgne” ou old French “Chasne”, “Chêne” (a location where oaks grew). This single vineyard is mostly composed of clay and limestone. The soil is well drained thanks to the inclusion of rock debris.
