The Gauthier family owns the best plot and exposure on the famed Cote de Py hill of Morgon. Born on the Cote, Laurent Gauthier cultivates his Gamay vines on 2 ha of east-facing alluvial schist soils. The wine ferments in oak vats then goes in to large old foudre to age. Powerful and structured, this wine drinks well now with food but is really built to age.
Deep, dark and mysterious, this Morgon Cote du Py has so much mineral depth and such fine tannins, remaining cool and precise in spite of the warmth of the vintage. Tons of spice and licorice at the very long, velvety finish, where there’s also a hint of candied ginger. Sustainable. Drink or hold.
The schist and granite soil of the vineyard has added mineralty to this wine's dense black fruits. It is full, generously textured with acidity to enhance the juicy flavors. Drink this wine from 2023.
