Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé can trace its roots back over 550 years, to 1450, and the Chambolle vines of Jean Moisson. Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, today the domaine is headed by its 20th generation - Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. Winemaker François Millet thins his crop to optimize flavors through reasonable yields. He ages 30-40% of the Grands Crus in new oak barrels, a move that emphasizes earth and fruit flavors instead of spicy wood aromas.

This is, to my taste, every bit as complex as the Bonnes-Mares, but completely different in character. This is less structured and almost imposing, showing a lush quality to the mineral-scented black cherry fruit, and a supple, silky texture on the palate that is softer but not lacking in structure. A wine of surpassing elegance and marvellously hedonistic. (Drink between 2025-2050)

Dark black purple. The Amoureuses too is wonderfully heady and super-concentrated but feels in better balance than the Bonnes Mares. Perhaps the grapes fared better in the sunny conditions, as the rows run north-south, meaning that the berries only see the full sun for half the day. There is an interesting variation between red and black fruit and a good fruit acid balance.
