Chateau La Tour de Mons - Margaux 2022 (1.5L)

With origins dating back to the 13th century, Château La Tour de Mons is one of the oldest wine estates in Margaux. Classified as a Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, Château La Tour de Mons underwent major renovation work in the 1990s. Managed by CA Grands Crus since 2012 and under the direction of Anne Le Naour, the estate's Technical Director, Château La Tour de Mons produces wines that reflect all the typicity and authenticity of the Margaux appellation on Bordeaux's Left Bank.

Château La Tour de Mons 2022 is a Margaux wine produced from a 58-hectare single vineyard. The vines are 32 years old on average and grow on Garonne gravel and clay-limestone soils.

James Suckling: 93 Points

Some fine, sweet spices and licorice to the ripe but fresh currants and berries. Tightly wound and juicy, with medium to full body and a lengthy, slightly peppery finish. Fine-grained and evenly packed. Drink from 2027.

Jeb Dunnuck: 93 Points

The 2022 Château La Tour De Mons is a blend of 57% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. It’s a beautifully ripe Margaux offering notes of red and blue fruits, rose petals, and background spicy oak. Medium to full-bodied, it’s beautifully balanced, with fine tannins and an elegant, seamless mouthfeel. Aged in 20% new oak for 12 months, it’s a classic, well-made Margaux that should evolve gracefully over the next 15+ years.

Jane Anson: 92 Points

Softer shape to this than many wines in the appellation, a reflection of the clay limestone soils that make it pretty atypical for Margaux, and here the spices highlight nutmeg and cinnamon along with ripe damson fruits, fresh acidities that give a welcome kick of juice on the end, 60% new oak, harvest September 8 to 22, 100% handpicked since Nathalie Perrodo took over in 2020. Marjolaine de Coninck CEO and technical director. The blend given is planted, not as per final wine, as they allow for a slight evolution of the blend after ageing, so these are ones to check back in on when in bottle. - Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux

The Wine Independent

The 2022 La Tour de Mons is a blend of 57% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple in color, it starts off a little closed and sluggish, soon unfurling to offer scents of baked plums, blackberry compote, and chocolate-covered cherries, with hints of charcoal and bay leaves. The full-bodied palate is chock full of juicy black fruits, supported by firm, grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with an herbal lift. - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Independent

Decanter

Sleek and direct, linear and focussed, a good crisp bite to the fruit with searing, vibrant strawberry and red cherry fruit and a mineral chakiness that has a powdery, grippy texture. I like the precision and detail, feels well worked, not trying too hard still with intensity and drive. Approachable and charming, fleshy and ripe, but friendly with just a touch of heat on the finish. HVE certified. - Georgina Hindle, Decanter
