Chateau Fortia - Tradition Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2019

"full-bodied and generous, with fat and then tension. Nice volume of midpalate. The tannins are dense and fine, chiseled, and carry the wine on the finish." Wine Advocate

Chateau Fortia Description

Baron Pierre LeRoy de Boiseaumarie (1890-1967) was born into a military family in Northern France. Educated as a lawyer, Pierre was forced to participate in the first World War where he medaled for being a pilot. In 1919, Pierre married Melle Bernard Le Saint, the owner of Chateau Fortia. The estate fell on tough times after the war.

Pierre was also a crucial figure in the development of the AOC system that came about in the 1930’s. Today Pierre’s 3rd generation descendants own the property. Sandra Rochelle was appointed winemaker in 2015, ushering in a renaissance of quality driven production at the château.

James Suckling: 92 Points

"Rich and powerful with plum cake and licorice character, but also excellent freshness, which make this an appealing and sophisticated Chateauneuf. In spite of the considerable scale of the wine, it is very harmonious, thanks to the abundant, fine tannins. Rather long, polished finish."-James Suckling

Wine Advocate

Tasted prior to bottling, Fortia's 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape is a foudre-aged blend of 45% each Grenache and Mourvèdre and 10% Syrah. It offers up slightly herbal notes but more bright red fruit in the form of ripe cherries and pomegranate. It's full-bodied in the mouth, soft, silky and elegant, then slightly drying on the finish.
