Chateau Beaucastel - Hommage A Jacques Perrin Grande Cuvee Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2011 (3L)

The Chateau de Beaucastel Hommage Jacques Perrin opens to a gorgeous nose with red fruits (blackberries, redcurrants), figs, black pepper and spices. The mouth is round and lush with a lot of flesh and intensity, backed by a great graphite spine. It displays aromas of blue fruits, porcini mushrooms, black truffles and mourvedre meaty components. The wine is long and round with intense tannins that are already soft but will hold the wine for the next 20-30 years.

Chateau Beaucastel Description

Château de Beaucastel Hommage à Jacques Perrin is a special cuvée in honor of the Perrin family's founder. Only made in exceptional years from mostly very old Mourvedre vines, the Beaucastel 'specialty grape', yielding tiny quantities of intensely ripe, concentrated fruit. Meant for long aging, this is a superb choice for the cellar to open on the most special of occasions. In 1989, 1990, 1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011 conditions were so favorable that the Perrins' released an Hommage à Jacques Perrin. This is Beaucastel's most collectible wine.

Jeb Dunnuck: 98 Points

Only made in top vintages and a blend of roughly 60% (or more) Mourvedre and the rest a mix of other permitted varieties, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage a Jacques Perrin is a cellar selection that always comes from the same plot of vines. A massive, powerful wine, with serious amounts of extract and concentration, it slowly gives up gamey, complex (and heavenly) notes of blueberry, blackberry, blood, licorice, garrigue and smoke. This flows to a full-bodied, layered and brilliantly textured effort that conceals its tannic spine with tons of fruit. It should start to hit its prime at about age 10 and have two to three decades of longevity. Drink 2017-2029+. (JD)

Wine Advocate: 97 Points

A strong showing for this wine, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin displays lovely aromas of truffle, tree bark, red raspberries and cherries. It's medium to full-bodied and remarkably fresh-tasting, with silky tannins on the long, elegant finish. What a super effort, one that should easily be capable of drinking well for more than another decade. Best After 2017
