VINEYARD 1.5 hectare vineyard in the lieu-dit "Val Vilaine" consisting of 100% Pinot Noir. 40 year-old vines
SOIL Bands of Kimmeridgian soil common to Chablis. The Côte des Bars is closer to Chablis than to Reims.
VITICULTURE Vineyards are farmed using organic methods and simple Guyot pruning is employed. Vines are planted at a density of 8000 vines per hectare.
VINIFICATION 1st press juice only, hand harvested and crushed by foot and fermented using indigenous yeast. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
AGING Aged for 16 months on the lees in stainless steel. Bottled with no dosage.
NOTES Bouchard coaxes incredible nuance and complexity out of these 40 year-old Pinot Noir vines. WIth only 15-16 months sur lattes, this bright, vinous and citrus-centric bottling is the perfect introduction to the Bouchardian style. Label decoder: VV/R21 = Val Vilaine / recolte (harvest) 2021

The 2022 Blanc de Noirs Val Vilaine is a pretty, open-knit offering from Cédric Bouchard. Rich and layered, with lovely up-front appeal, the 2022 edition is a fine choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Pear, kirsch, white flowers and mint are beautifully layered. This is an especially fine edition of the Val Vilaine, a Champagne that will give readers a very good look at Bouchard's distinctive style at a price that won't totally break the bank. No dosage.
