The origins of Bolgheri Castle date back to 1200. Since then, it has been the property of the Counts of Gherardesca family. In the second half of the 1700s, restoration work and improvements were made to the building, and the cellars were built. In 1895, the castle’s facade was modified, with the construction of the tower and merlons as we still see them today.
Bolgheri Castle and its surrounding lands were transferred by hereditary succession to the current family of the Counts Zileri Dal Verme.
The 2020 Varvara is potent with aromas of pine sap, dried black cherry, leather, and menthol that are followed by a medium to full-bodied red, with a gentle texture and warming notes of black plum, tea leaf, and wooded earth.
A linear and vivd red with black-cherry and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Fresh flowers, too. Medium to full body, chewy tannins and a bright finish. Give it a year or two, but already very pretty.
Here's a quality, easy-to-drink blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The 2020 Bolgheri Rosso Varvàra is integrated and smooth with no rough spots. Black fruit, pressed rose, earth and spice are carefully woven together. All elements are in place, and the wine is available at a very attractive price point.
An expressive red, boasting black currant, blackberry, plum, iron and tobacco flavors, with firm, dusty tannins lending support. Fresh and balanced, with plenty of length and staying power. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
