The 2017 Ilatraia is Brancaia's top Maremma wine. Blackberry jam, grilled spice, bittersweet chocolate, licorice and espresso all build in the glass. Ilatraia is a blend of 40% Petit Verdot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc. Petit Verdot is rarely a featured variety in a blend, but it works here, as it adds notable darkness and heft, but without the searing tannins that can be penalizing. (Drink between 2022-2029)
