If Vosne-Romanee is considered by many to be Bourgogne’s Heaven, then Arnaud & Sophie are truly a “match made in Heaven”…
Sophie is coming from the Domaine Michel Noellat and Arnaud is coming from the Domaine Robert Sirugue, both estates are within a stone’s throw from one another and their project as a new unit is Domaine Sirugue-Noellat that has now found a home across from Maxime Cheurlin and right next to the historical Rene Engel House on the square in front of Vosne-Romanee’s City Hall.
The first vintage of the Estate was 2016 and they decided to produce 2 cuvées: a Bourgogne Passetougrain Rosé made from Gamay and Pinot Noir grapes grown in the village; Arnaud spent a few years training in Provence at Domaine Minuty and really wanted to have “a fun wine to drink with friends and family and we happen to have a fair amount of Gamay and Pinot planted on the plateau below the village. The second wine is a Vosne-Romanee, sourced from their family pot of “Les Barreaux” that is located along the border of Cros Parantoux. The 2016 Vosne did not reference the climat as a “Rookie Mistake” but this was corrected and since 2018 the mention Les Barreaux figures on the bottles.
Their tiny cellar under Arnaud’s Grandfather’s house will undoubtedly become an attraction for the most discerning palates as the quality of fruit and wines that are coming out of this tiny project is superb… the quantities are extremely limited but there is good hope that once each of them get their vineyard allotment they will instantly become a force in Cote de Nuits. It is so exciting to see the pieces come together.
