Mijenta‘s second expression takes its base Highlands agave and ages it for up to six months in a blend of American white oak, French oak, and French acacia wood casks.
The finished product is soft and approachable, offering a solid balance between the freshness of agave and the sweetness driven by the barrel. Lightly peppery on the nose, the tequila features fresh herbs, a pinch of spice, and a mild, indistinct fruitiness that runs to apricot and lemon. The palate spins the equation around, offering a honeyed peach and citrus note up front, filtered through gentle caramel and vanilla notes. There’s a punch of barrel char on the finish, but again this element is mild and well-integrated with the livelier, fruity attack.
Less unusual than the expressive and wild blanco, this reposado bottling sticks a bit closer to the expected flavor profile — despite its unusual barrel treatment… Drinkhacker.com
